I used to be scared of my own shadow.

Today I walked through the downtown Grand Rapids skywalk I used when I worked at Old Kent and Fifth Third. Back then I went to work, but underneath it all I was a scared little boy.

Years later, after surviving AIDS and a stroke, and experiencing estrangement, loss, and rebuilding, I walked those hallways again. The buildings were familiar, but I wasn’t the same person.

I still have hard days. Sometimes I need to walk and clear my head. But I understand myself differently now.

Sometimes you don’t realize how far you’ve come until you walk through a place where you once felt lost.

FindMeRaw. Real life. Real recovery. Still becoming.
