Welcome to FindMeRaw. I’m Jim, and I’m rebuilding my life at 55. If you’re trying to figure out what comes next after a life you didn’t expect, you’re welcome here.
I’ve survived AIDS and a stroke, stepped away from a dysfunctional family, and returned to work after disability. I’m still learning about boundaries, trust, money, and making changes when I’d much rather put them off until tomorrow. Apparently tomorrow already has a full schedule.
I write about recovery and rebuilding as I live it: the progress, the grief, the awkward parts, and the occasional laugh that gets me through a difficult day.
Is this your kind of place?
FindMeRaw is for people starting over, living with family estrangement, learning to set boundaries, or finding their footing after illness or financial setbacks. I also write from my experience as a gay man and a member of Gen X. You don’t have to share my whole story to recognize a piece of your own.
Three places to begin
1. Get to know my story.
Starting Over at 55: What Nobody Tells You About Rebuilding Your Life explores family boundaries, returning to work, and what starting again actually asks of us.
2. If you’re feeling stuck.
Procrastination, Stubbornness, and the Changes I Keep Putting Off is my honest look at wanting things to change while resisting the work of changing them.
3. Choose one small next step.
Starting Over at 55: A 7-Day Plan for Making Changes offers a manageable way to move one unfinished task forward. Start with day one; the rest can wait.
A little more about me
You can read more on my About Me page. I’ve also written a book drawn from the practical side of rebuilding, Life After Bankruptcy, which is now available on Amazon, and I’m working on Starting Over at 55.
For today, pick the post that speaks to where you are. Read it at your own pace. You don’t need a complete plan before you begin.
